Can You Pass the Silver Lining Test?

Every 2-3 seconds I’m swatting little Q’s hand away saying “No, don’t touch that,” “Stop! That shuts it off,” “Ooh, I hear daddy going downstairs. Go see what he’s doing!” while he’s sitting on my lap to get as close to the action as possible. A toddler who loves buttons, lights, and screens is not super helpful when I’m trying to use a computer. And as much as I’d like to say that’s the sole reason I haven’t posted recently, it’s not. I embarked on another venture that I’ve been working to get up and going, but now I think most of my little duckies are in a row.

The new business has taken me away from my family while working some events and I’m appreciating them more when we’re all together. From what I’ve heard, Q really doesn’t like it when he doesn’t see me for a whole day. Apparently, he only wants daddy to hold him other than very short stints with a few family members. My husband says he’s a mama’s boy and…he is. Most of the time I really don’t mind. It’s the times he’s hot on my heals, fussy, and wants to be carried when I’m trying to finish a task. He’s getting heavy! On the bright side, I’m gaining muscle.

Growing up, I remember watching The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. We have Disney+, which I heartily recommend, and we started watching a Disney movie as a family on Sunday nights to continue the tradition. We’ll have dinner then get all situated to watch a movie that we don’t have to worry about being rated R, bloody violence, or awful language. It includes all the old Disney movies, not just cartoons. Little Q’s preferred place to watch is in our bed. He gets all snuggled up, the show starts, then Q crawls out from under the covers and frogs around on the bed the rest of the time. I look forward to Sunday night family time.

Some days it’s harder to make those family moments somewhat memorable. I am working full time, getting the new business off the ground, still trying to declutter the house, and continue to chase a toddler around. It will all work out fine and I’ll learn to relax more without thinking of all the things that need to get done. In the meantime, I’m thoroughly loving being a mama and a wife, those 2 boys keep me laughing.

There’s always a silver lining, even in the boring everyday tasks. Some days, it’s a sliver that you need to look a hard to find. Other times, it’s right there in front of you throwing out your packed clothes and crawling inside while the daddy laughs.
